Monoprints These cards were made using a simple monoprint technique. I've since expanded a bit, but since what below is already written up I am just going to copy and paste. I am getting a bit carpal tunnel-ish with all the clicking and typing to put this gallery together! The way I've been doing monoprinting with Fluid Chalks is very simple. 1) I use a large shadow stamp as the palette to work on and place it rubber side up on the table. 2) Starting with the lightest color first and working toward darker, I dab a few Fluid Chalk inks onto the rubber. Depending on the image(s) I'm going to use, I'll leave some areas lighter in color so the image will show better. I've used from 3-5 different colors and let them layer each other a bit rather than trying to cover one with another. I'll use things from nearly whites, to pastels, to medium tones of inks. 3) Then I take an image or few and after inking with a darker color of Fluid Chalk (like Prussian Blue, Charcoal, Warm Violet, etc.) I stamp right onto the colored rubber. Everything has happened Direct To Rubber so far, stamping onto my shadow stamp. 4) Then I print the shadow stamp to get the monoprint, which is made up of all the colors and images I put on it. I really like how this comes out on coated white matte stock. The inks really seem to become a part of the paper, which gives me a Zen Moment! I know there are different ways to monoprint other than my little version. There was an article recently in Rubber Stamper -- I think it was Sept 2002 -- using some Hampton Arts stamps. The author used pigment inks to color the shadow stamp and then did her images in dye ink on that. |
