Ceramic Tile Trivets can be used in many different ways. The 8"x10", 8"x8", and 6"x6" tiles can be used as hot plates or as decorative items when displayed upright on a plate holder. The 4"x4" tiles can be used as coasters, or as candle holders (candle must be burned down a little, the middle scooped out, the wick trimmed down, and a scented tea candle is placed in the hole, thus preserving the original hand painted candle, and allowing the candle to be scented). This also prevents melted wax from running down the sides of the candle onto the tile candle holder.

I use Permaenamel Paints on my tiles, which makes them dishwasher safe, and heat proof to 350 degrees. I also glue corkboard to the bottom of the tiles to prevent scratching of countertops or furniture.
