Both common names are very descriptive of this exceptionally beautiful flower. Like most annuals, Poor-Man's Orchid germinates easily from seed. The big surprise is its cold-hardiness. Being in the same family with tomatoes, you might think it to be rather tender but I've seen it come through unharmed when the air temperature in the garden dropped to the mid-20's F.
