Mother Crim Eliza Clinedinst Crim was a young woman living in New Market at the time of the battle. Following the long Sunday fight, the wounded soldiers filled virtually every home and barn in the community. Several of the VM I cadets were taken to the Clinedinst home. Cadet Thomas Jefferson would die there. She continued a correspondence with many of the cadets she first met in the aftermath of the battle and became know as the Mother of the New Market Cadets. |
