Granbury Hoot Darlene McNeil, aka SenioRita, hosted a hoot to introduce QMBers to her town. We met at the Jalapeno Tree restaurant for lunch on Thursday, November 13, to kick off the event. Had a great time there. Then it was off to the Granbury Square. Tex, Spycee and Lady Sharon seemed to be out of sync with everyone else because we didn't see any other Red Hatters on the square, but we enjoyed visiting about half the shops before our feet gave out. We went to the hotel to check in, only to find most of the gang heading downtown to shop! Sharon and Tex took a nap, and Spycee nosed around the hotel, looking for trouble! Around 6:30 that evening, we headed to the boat dock, but it was pitch dark, and there was no sign at the road where we were to turn so it took awhile before everyone gathered at the lake dock. There were twenty-one hatters for the two-hour cruise. We had a nice dinner and were entertained by Mike, who sang 50s and 60s songs and had us all doing back-up and dancing. It was a lot of fun. Our only regret was that it was too dark to see the lake. When we got back to the hotel, Spycee got up an LCR session. We put on our jammies and met in the Board Room for a few games. On Friday morning, several of us had breakfast at the hotel buffet. Queen Sparkling Rose had asked Tex to bring Hattie, the Traveling Hat, to Granbury, and we got some good pictures of her in the dining area. It seemed appropriate for Darlene (SenioRita) to wear Hattie since she was our hostess. After breakfast, we checked out of the hotel and walked around back to the beautiful deck and beach overlooking the lake. The weather was perfect, and that area was lovely. We headed back to the square to visit the shops we had missed the day before and STILL didn't see any other Red Hatters. We couldn't figure out where all of them went. A man asked if he could take our picture with his wife. He said his mother is a Red Hatter in Asheville, NC, but we didn't recognize her name. They were a very nice couple from Atlanta. Before we headed home, we stopped at a consignment store Spycee had spotted the day before, and we lucked out. Spycee got a number of outfits, and Tex found matching purple jeans and jeans jacket so she's ready for next year's Denim & Diamonds. We beat the cold front home although the wind made it a strain to hold onto the car at times. The three of us had a wonderful time, and Spycee and Tex hope that Sharon has caught the QMB bug. |
