Paper Mache

This is a whole new medium for me. I started trying my hand at it the end of October in order to make a special display for my sisters open house in December. I wasn't even sure I could do it! Some of it is easy to figure out, some not so easy. There is a lot to learn and hopefully next time I won't be on such a time limit and will slow down and be more careful with my sculpting process. These elfs are pretty amature as far as detailing and quality in the paper mache area, but give me time...I'll get it right !

Every year small towns around me have open house Christmas tours. These five elfs are to be displayed along side of the Christmas mural of the Santa's workshop. They will be holding Christmas lights and line the sidewalk leading to the front door. Christmas elfs are the diminutive magical creatures that live with Santa Claus in the North Pole and act as his helpers. They are often depicted as green-clad with pointy ears, long noses, and pointy hats. Santa's elfs are often said to make the toys in Santa's workshop and take care of his reindeer among other tasks. ( and just for the record...the word elfs is not incorrect with an s on the end.) Elfs and elves Chistmas elfs and fantasy elves are not the same species despite them having near identical names. Christmas elfs are more often referred to as "elfs"/"elfish" as opposed to "elves"/"elvin" whereas fantasy elves are more often referred to as "elves"/"elvin". Christmas elfs are more similar to pixies and gnomes then modern fantasy elves. This misconception of elfs and elves being the same race is partially brought on by Santa's elfs being referred to as "Santa's elves" and "elves" in modern culture. This gives the two races the exacts same name.
