September 2008 For September, Queen for the Day Vickie had the idea for a swap meet to raffle items that we no longer want or need. Fayrene kindly obtained the community center at her subdivision and set up everything for us. We invited the Great Gals of Garland from the Garland Senior Center to join us for the day. There were 75 or more raffle items at 25ยข a chance, and Jo Ann did a great job of auctioning off any items that didn't have any tickets bought for them. There were also some very nice items on the sale table. We ate at 12:30 and, as usual for potlucks, there was a ton of great food. The center had a separate, comfortable room for dining. After lunch, Cynthia drew raffle tickets, and everyone went home with a nice haul. We had thirteen Re-Gals in attendance, plus quite a few Great Gals, and Vickie's guest, former Re-Gal Farzana. Farzana was a Pinkie when we last saw her, but she won her first red hat and purple clothes in the raffle. Frankie and Fayrene were celebrating their birthdays this month, but in all the excitement, we forgot to kazoo them. Happy Birthday, Ladies! Thank you, Vickie and Fayrene, for your hard work, and thanks to everyone who brought raffle and sale items and the wonderful food.
Sharon and Cynthia clogged in the Red Hat Talent Show on September 30 at the Plaza Theatre in downtown Garland with Shufflin' Shoes teammates, Amy and Linda, performing to Amazing Grace and Alabama Jubilee. The Re-Gals and Shoes had lunch before the show at The Corner Pocket restaurant across the street from the theater. |
