Jerry and Debbie's Rocky Mountain Trip!

Our trip was great w/exception of the breakdown in Springdale AR but I guess we were lucky only to be off the road 24 hrs. We had a house given to us for the week in Basalt, CO about 15 mi N of Aspen. It was right on the Frying Pan River, noted as the BEST trout stream of the west for both size and trophies of all 4 species. There was a lot of action on the river. We crossed Independence Pass 3 times which was a real treat. If you haven’t stopped in Twin Lakes at the Wind Spirits Café, you have to make the trip to get a fresh cinnamon roll. I bought shirts for our crew before the trip and put Wild Wings Tour 2008, a play on the Wild Hogs movie. We wore them a couple of days and got several comments. Most people just grabbed for their sunglasses.

Deb flew out but decided to ride back with me. The other two guys don’t ride with a group, and they left me several times. They were wanting to run too fast for me, so Deb and I returned solo to KY. We made a run thru the Rocky Mtn Nat Park and overnighted at Estes Park. The view in RMNP was incredible but so were most all the sights in CO. We exited CO on Friday headed east via Nebraska. Dropped down into Missouri and caught Hwy 36, a nice rural 4 lane that allowed us to bypass Kansas City and St Louis. Made an afternoon stop in Pittsfield , IL for gas and dinner and we highly recommend the Red Dome Inn just off the downtown square. Pittsfield is about 5 miles off the Interstate but worth the detour. The ride didn’t tire me until we reached Louisville and then it was like I couldn’t get off the bike soon enough. I was really tired and crashed onto the porch swing. Took Monday off too to recuperate. Hope to catch you guys on a ride soon! Jerry
