We visited the Houston Police Department Mounted Patrol today and all of us had a wonderful time. The Officer in Charge gave us a briefing first which was very informative. He told us about the horses, how they are used...different situations in which they work, some of the history of the Patrol, their training program, and some information about their new facility which they will move into around the first of the year.

Then we got to go out and meet the horses. What fun!! We pet them and fed them carrots. After we fed a few of them we got less timid of them. All of the horses were on good behavior for us. The Officer in Charge is one of the ones that grooms the horses hooves. He did some of that while we were there and explained what he was doing. It was very interesting.
