When Life Throws You a Curve... My Mod Years (Pieced, no applique', see all contest winners at www. benartex.com) I have always loved bright colors and lively color combinations. The Woodstock collection was an immediate obsessive inspiration for me! My design challenge was to exclusively use all 33 fabrics in the collection, with a lot of texture and dimension. My quilt, When Life Throws You a Curve My Mod Years, symbolizes who I was in my youth when these types of colors and patterns were first popular. The center reflects the inner turmoil of my youth as influenced by the eras chaotic social and moral climate. The obvious ill-matching of patterns reflect my vacillating youthful ideas. The incomplete circles indicate my developing abilities and actions. The ribbon border represents my interactions with the world around me; at times dramatic and edgy, other times solid and flowing. The simple quilting spiral is symbolic of the one constant in my life, a firm belief in a Creator and a search for Truth. Note that the spiral is counterclockwise as I hadnt yet made peace with my spirituality. |
