The following is how adoptions at the Animal Care Services facility work ...
Any impounded animal at the facility is available for adoption if it is not claimed by an owner. A stray animal is held for 72 hours at the shelter. During this time, an individual adopter or a rescue group can put their name on an animal being held. In the case of an adoption by an individual, the pet adoption fee must be paid at that time. At the end of the pet's stray hold period, if the animal has been claimed by an adopter or a rescue group, the pet is then spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and released to the adopting person or rescue group. If the dog or cat has not been claimed by either adoption or rescue, then that pet is destroyed. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting a pet directly from Animal Care Services, you must visit the facility in person, walk through the facility to view all the impounded animals and then claim the pet you want ... returning for that pet after its stray hold period has ended and the pet has been readied for adoption in the ACS clinic.

This site is maintained by a volunteer. Photos of various pets available for adoption through Animal Care Services are taken by this volunteer whenever she has access to the pet and uploaded to this PictureTrail. Most of the pets listed here for adoption are in private foster care through the Guardian Angel program or the Lifesavers Program, and are not in danger of loosing their lives; however, when you adopt a pet that is safely in fostercare, you are then freeing that foster space for another incoming pet, therefore saving yet another life! Again, to see a full, complete and up-to-date listing of current impounded animals at the facility who are in danger of losing their lives, please visit http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/TX487.html daily to see newly added incoming pets.

If you adopt or rescue an animal from Animal Care Services, you are literally saving a life!! ALL ANIMALS IMPOUNDED AT ANIMAL CARE SERVICES ARE IN DANGER OF LOOSING THEIR LIVES.

Please scroll down the column of photos to the left and click on a photo to view the details of that pet. If you see a pet you are interested in adopting, please contact the appropriate person(s) listed as contact for that particular pet.
