Scottish Highland Cow - Oona Talulla

We wanted to raise our own beef - but didn't want a large breed or a heavy milk producing breed. Also, we plan on only having one or two cows...so something on the unique side was of interest. :) While surfing the net we came across the Scottish Highland Breed and did a lot research. We were quite pleased with our findings and decided this was the breed for us. Of course every site we had been to was from out-of-state. We were sure we would have to travel a long distance to find what we wanted. Imagine our amazement to find a herd with the body type we liked less then 20 miles away! It was meant to be.........LOL

Quote: "For years and years it has been a tradition to give Highland cattle Gaelic names and descriptive adjectives. It is a tradition which is full of fun but difficult to maintain, since for many years the Gaelic language has been on the decline. Around 1970 things started to turn around and Gaelic is coming back strongly. (http://www.locustbrae.com/gaelicintro.html)" We are proud to continue this custom and our cow's name means: Oona - Irish/Gaelic: Latin: 'One'. Talulla - Irish/Gaelic: 'A prosperous lady'. It is our sincerest desire that she IS One Prosperous Lady!
