Tower of London.
One of our major stops was on a rainy morning. It was the Tower of London, a veritable city where prisoners were kept, sometimes executed nearby on Tower Green and also occasionally the seat of government when London was besieged. There is an armory, prison, called the White Tower, the Crown Jewels and a few other places not specifically remembered. The mote around the Tower of London has been drained permanently due to the stink of bodies and garbage which collected there over time. Originally, this mote connected to the Thames River, but water had a hard time getting out!
