Lichen, Usnea
Jan 1st 2003. Usnea species, Lichen Family, Parneliaceae. Aka, Old Man's Beard. This is a plantlike result of a symbiotic association between algae and fungi. The Algae is the outer Greem portion and the Fungi is the white core, which has the strength to hold this in a plant like formation. When moist, you can stretch a strand to see the white inner core (the fungi). If it is a gray green, then it isn't of the Usnea species. This is always a light gray green color.
