Sister Lucille attended the University of Michigan and received a Master's Degree in Gerontology in 1972. Sister was a hospital chaplain in Lansing, Michigan from 1973 to 1977. In 1978 sister became the administrator of the Villa Marie Senior Citizen Center until she retired in 2000. Sister Lucille's wise planning led to the development of the Dominican Academy and DeLima Junior College. Both doors were open to young women beyond those preparing for religious life. As a builder sister expanded the walls of the convent by adding the novitiate building, renovating the juniorate, and adding wings unto the original mansion for the professed sisters. She further utilized the Oxford property for picnics, rosary, pilgrimages, fall festivals, and also allowed the Mendelson property to house the Lourdes Nursing Home. Sister also traveled quite extensively. Sister Lucille was always eager for celebrations. Above excerpts taken from the Dominican Congregation of St. Rose of Lima, a/k/a The Motherhouse in Oxford, Michigan. Sister Lucille passed on March 4, 2005 at the Lourdes Nursing Home in Waterford, MI. Sister Lucille was 89 years old. I myself have many memories of Sr. Lucille. God Bless and rest well Sr. Mary Lucille as you celebrate your new life on the other side. RE-POSTED 9-09-05
