Our First Winter At The Highlands...

We traveled to Seattle for the weekend of Valentines but had to extend our trip into the next week since the airports back east were closed by a Blizzard. National airport ended up with 15.9" of snow for the entire event placing this storm in sixth place for record snowfall totals. Up in Baltimore/BWI airport recorded its biggest snow ever with 26.6" . Dulles airport ended up with 24.2" moving this storm in second place behind the blizzard of 1996. Annapolis recorded 22 inches. I'm not sure what the official total was in our yard, especially since we had some sleet at the end of the storm, which may have made our total appear to be less. We most likely had anywhere between 15-20 inches! So far this winter, we've accumulated over 40 inches of snow. Last year we only had a total of 3 inches for the entire winter!

On December 5, 2002, when it was not yet officially winter, we had our first snowFall, accumulating 7 inches. It was just a hint of the winter we were about to experience. Pictures from that storm are featured towards the bottom on the left.
