My friend, Jon
Jon and I were both stationed at Camp Bearcat together, but in separate units. He flew with the 240th AHC, Greyhounds and Mad Dogs. After his first tour of duty with the 240th AHC, Jon did a second tour as a crew chief with the 3/17 Air Cavalry. While with the Air Cavalry, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for heroic action in air combat. After receiving hostile fire, the Aircraft Commander was seriously wounded and their LOCH helicopter subsequently crashed. He removed the pilot from the downed aircraft and brought him to the safety of a Huey that came to rescue them. Great job, old buddy! Jon and I have maintained a friendship since coming home from Vietnam. I'm sure glad you made it home in one piece, Jon!.....your friendship has always meant a lot to me. (photo courtesy of Jon)
