The Head of the Weir Race is located on the Weir River, which is situated near Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA. The "Gray Buzzards," consisting that day of Mark Lubbers, Charlie Martineau, Chuck Resevick, Steve Sedgwick Louie Doherty, Jeff Larsen and coxed by Cynthia Spence, put in an excellent performance under pretty rough rowing conditions. (For this race, Kevin Lee didn't race but unstead caught the action on camera from one of the catch boats.)

The weather that day was especially windy, so much so that they reconfigured the course to keep rowers out of the roughest part of the harbor. The race began at the mouth of the Weir River, and continued down river to the open part of the bay. The course was especially rough going for most of the way, with white caps waiting for rowers as they exited the Weir River and headed for the turning buoy.
