How we built my glass shelves

After procrastination and deliberation we finally decided the time had come for glass shelves. The shelves were designed to fit a certain area of my studio and actually were downsized to fit between studs so we could anchor them. We didn't anchor them, so we could, and should, have gone a little wider. The design is such that if I purchase more 1/2 sheet glass I can remove a center shelf and have more "tall" space. I could also remove dividers for storage of other supplies.

Total cost was less than $70. Materials: 2 4'x8' sheets of 3/4" plywood, 2 4'x8' sheets of hardboard, furring strips (1x2s- I think 3 were used) and a few different types of screws. Tools- circular saw, clamps, router, clamps, 3/8" router bit, clamps, 2 drills (since we had them- made assembly a bit faster), level, wood glue, clamps and I think we used the table saw a couple of times, just to make life a little easier. The project took us about 25 hours or so, including shopping and a small electrical project (there was an outlet in the way and that's where the soldering iron plugs in- so we moved the outlet!).
