Timberline Overlook, Cottonwood Pass, CO
Cottonwood Pass straddles the Continental Divide between Buena Vista and Taylor Park. The east side of Cottonwood Pass Road is paved; the west side is gravel. At the top of the pass is a large, paved parking area and you may camp there. We have in the past. However, it gets busy there with geology students on field trips and tourists taking pictures. If, instead, you continue westward towards Taylor Park, you'll see a gravel road leading to an overlook identified as "Timberline Overlook" on the Forest Service map. Few people ever leave the main road to investigate this overlook. There is a well-defined trail and several benches for the convenience of visitors who may come to enjoy the breathtaking views.
