Hoosier Pass, CO
Hoosier Pass straddles the Continental Divide at 11,500 feet elevation. On its south side, all waters flow to the Atlantic Ocean; on its north side, they flow to the Pacific Ocean. Paved Colorado State Highway 9 crosses this pass as it travels from I-70 south through the ski town of Breckenridge into the historic mining towns of Alma and Fairplay. Being a favorite photo stop for tourists, the Highway Department has provided a very large, level parking area near the sign identifying the parting of the waters. You can camp in the parking area or drive up the dirt road a short distance as we did to a more private but not very level site. Fortunately, there was a conveniently-located berm in this site and, by driving the front wheels up on it, we were able to level up.
