This book's original title was Surviving. I thought it would be an interesting subject. When it came time to start it, I thought of many ways to take the book, from natural disasters, starvation, disease, endangered species, etc. Having to edit my ideas down to a manageable focus was the hardest part of starting this book.

Using the doll images came from a visit to a friend's studio, where I noticed a box of old doll parts on a shelf. They were fresh in my mind, and new to my work. Armed with these images I set off looking for a quote that would help move the reader through the book. Here it is.
