The Crying Baby
Not since the incident I call "The Fever", which has happened each year on October 2, has an unexplained experience occured on the anniversary of something, but now we think there may have been another. It all began on Janary 5, 2004, when my youngest daughter (10) and I both distinctly heard a baby crying in the house. We never found the source of the sound and everyone else in the house (including all of our pets) were inevitably accounted for at the time. Interestly, despite a house full of people, we were the only ones to hear the tiny cry. A week later, on January 11, with another full house of potential witnesses, once again only Miranda and I heard the baby crying. It was very distinct, though. There is no doubt what we heard. In fact, the crying was so audible, we were certain my toddler had woken from his nap; however, my husband and oldest daughter were right near his room and neither heard the baby crying. Since a few things happened in one week, which is unusual even for our haunted house, we decided to go over the historical documents just to see if there was any significant anniversary on this date. According to headstones in the graveyard behind the house, a baby named John Emory was born in the house on January 5, 1847 and he died 9 days later on January 13. Could this be the baby whose cries we were hearing? When telling my mother the story recently, she brought to my attention that it was almost the anniversary of when we bought the house, too. I looked through my photo files and she was right. It's very ironic but the first time we ever visited this house was on January 5, 2002 and the next time we came by was January 11th, the same days we heard the cries. On a side note, another unexplained experience happened just an hour after the last time we heard the cries, only this time everyone in the house heard it.
