Rip Wrap Rock and Cutting Garden

A rip wrap landscaping wall consisting of granite rocks was installed on a sloping section of land near where our septic tank is located. Garden beds were installed above and below the rip wrap since it was difficult to mow around this retaining wall. After finding success with sedums in other parts of the garden, these hardy, drought tolerant plants were gradually added to the crevices and rock spaces in the rip wrap. This garden gets full sun so it was a perfect place to add cutting annuals in the surrounding beds. In other years the cutting gardens were filled with over 20 different varieties of zinnias. This year we are trying new plants including pentas, dahlias, gladiolus. Also included are old favorites such as ageratum, hollyhocks, cosmos, celosia, statice, salvia, gomphrena, etc.

The photos in this album are from June shortly after everything was planted. By end of August this garden should be full and lush.
