GROOMS' CAKES

For a wedding for 150 or more, a groom's cake has become a 'must' in Texas weddings. A few still choose to have only one large wedding cake, however, but most brides get both. Many folks ask 'WHY a groom's cake?' There are a lot of chocolate lovers in the crowd always--so many that I NEVER even leave a 'leftover' box for the chocolate cake. One mom called recently to tell me that I didn't make enough chocolate cake for her daughter's wedding, and all I could reply is 'There is no such thing as enough of my fudge cake!' 'Tis so true! Who pays for the groom's cake?? It varies. Sometimes the groom or groom's family pays for this, but usually the bride covers this expense--especially if the bride or her mom wants a little control. Some moms don't want motorcycles, dragons or big fish on the groom's cake so they order something a little more conventional and pay for it along with the bridal cake. (Sorryyyyy!) Please note that prices on cakes are the prices at the time cake was created. Prices do fluctuate depending on the current overhead expenses, but ours are still some of the least expensive and best tasting cakes that you'll find anywhere in the Austin area.

I'm frequently asked how a bride should order cake...a slice of each cake for each person? No, that will be too much cake and you'll be carrying cake home after the wedding. I don't mind baking a truckload, but I do always try to be very honest with my brides, and I NEVER try to oversell. Some vendors do, you'll find. The general figure is 25% of the number invited doesn't show up for the wedding. This figure varies, of course, depending on circumstances. I suggest one slice/guest when you order. It's true that some get a slice of each, but there will always be some who don't eat cake at all--especially with a heavy buffet or sit-down dinner. Serving alcohol also cuts the figure down a little since most won't mix the alcohol with cake. Mexican weddings sometimes don't follow this rule. They're very close families and not only does everyone show up--they sometimes bring unexpected friends and neighbors! They're such great fun! :-)
