Front garden 2006 - ? In 2008, the garden will be 8 years old. The earliest areas planted are starting to mature nicely, although summer droughts have meant the trees have grown slower than we hoped they would. Editing and refining will be the priority for the next few years. The main goal now is to link the beds into a more unified framework. In 2007, a new small bed was created on the north edge of the front lawn and planted with a Japanese wisteria, which will be trained as a 'tree'. All the beds were edged with gray bricks. The remaining lawn is now just grassy paths between the beds. As the wisterias grow, the front garden will begin to appear enclosed - by the garage on the west; by the wisterias on the east(Japanese on the NE; Chinese on the SE); and by the serviceberry tree, two magnolia treess and an old cedar tree on the north. The garden will remain open to the south, other than the low mixed border along the driveway. |
