This year I have plans for many new works. During the past year, I have been working on the addition for our house which includes my new workshop so I haven't done much in the way of art. The workshop is mostly done and I can finally get in there and do some REAL work!! It's nice to have heat on those cold winter days. I have already signed up for several art shows and there are a few more I am considering. I will post them all on the main page with my pictures. I also plan to do more work on the kaleidoscopes I started, more Pink Ladies and more Flowers. I also have some ideas for kaleidoscopes that are a bit more masculine. There are several other ideas I want to try out as well. Many things to experiment with in the coming year. I have left the Kingston Art Gallery for now but may rejoin them in the future. I have too many other commitments at this time to work in another co-op. For now I will just focus on the Verksted Art Gallery in Poulsbo and the art shows throughout the year. Remember, you can always email me with questions and requests!! I plan to do lots of work in this new year of the Ox. It should be a good year for us Roosters as well.

I just recently finished Pink Lady 003. I have named her the Triple Goddess. She has 3 different mirror configurations, is very heavy and rather large. She is the biggest kaleidoscope I have made so far. She has sliced agates on the front wheel and streamer and confetti glass on the back wheel. The mirrors are not exact. Getting mirrors aligned properly is difficult!! But the images are still pleasing. I get better and better with each new kaleidscope I complete. Someday, hopefully, I will achieve that perfect alignment. I can only continue to do my best. As Yoda said, “Do or do not... there is no try.”

Well, summer is almost over and I haven't finished what I had set out to get done. Not a new concept for me but I had high hopes! With the kids back in school I plan to get busy on some new scopes and have several panels drawn out on paper I need to get put into glass. I am applying to another co-op gallery in Kingston today and hopefully I will have another avenue to display my work. It's very exciting. Posted on 08/31/2007 09:57 AM

It's official...well not really. I have a kaleidoscope collector fan. He came into the gallery and raved about my scopes to one of the other artists working that day and then proceeded to purchase two. I can't tell you how wonderful that made me feel!! I do hope people enjoy my work and get satisfaction from it. I want to thank that gentleman and everyone else who has purchased my work. This started out as a hobby and is now growing into something that is taking on a life of it's own. Being able to express myself through my work is a liberating feeling that I have never experienced before. Thank you all for your wonderful support!!

Keeping up with a blog is hard work!! I recently finished a new kaleidoscope. It's a dry chamber and it's in the shape of a light house. Actually, I modified the design of the lighthouse from the whirl by Deborah Aubin. I hope she doesn't get mad at me. I guess I should write her and tell her and ask her if it's ok..... So many people have been asking me to come up with a light house. So I did a little experimenting and put it all together. I think it turned out pretty good. Now..... for the sailboat. People have been asking for a sailboat. Going to have to think about that one for awhile......

I finished the Pink Lady the other day. The agate slices are a little darker than I would like and for some reason I can't seem to get clear pictures of the interior even though when I look inside with my eye everything looks fine. I think the agates are just too thick with not enough of the clear crystal portion. Today I am in the middle of working on a new scope. I think I will call them my mini panel scopes.....Still working on a name. Mini panel scope sounds kinda ho hum and while it's acurrate in the description...it's just too boring. But for now.....it's mini panels. Each scope will have one side (later I will do a two sided one) in a small stained glass picture. The first one is a flower. I can't wait to get it finished! Yesterday I worked on the next Pink Lady kaleidoscope. This time I am attempting to make the body of the scope eight sided and one of the wheels will also have eight pieces. This will be the eighth scope I have completed. Well, I finished the body and the wheels only to discover I made the wheels just a hair too small. Very annoying. I am pleased so far with the body and I can use the wheels on the next scope which will be a small one. I have some magnifying lenses I want to try using and should work great in a shorter scope. I am satisfied with the mirror configuration of the PL002 which has 7 points. It's not totally perfect but you really have to look to see it. This is getting annoying that I can't get good alignment. I ordered some sheets of front surface mirror to try cutting my own and see how that goes but I will use up all the pre-cut stuff first. Today I plan to finish up Pink Lady 002. I am also going to make a holder for it. Have been rolling around some ideas. I would like to go with wood. I love the warm colors of wood and think it's very complimentary to the glass but I am just not good enough for that so I will probably have to make something out of glass. I could always order a stand I guess. The new wheels will be one agate wheel with two slices, one of blue and the other pink and the second wheel will be more of the pink confetti glass. I really like those combinations. I also have some pink baroque I have been thinking about using when the confetti glass is gone. One thing I did not like about making the eight sided scope body is that I could not get the body into a perfect octagon. I think I would have to make a special form to get the body totally perfect. As it is now, it's barely noticeable but I know it's not right and that really bugs me. Posted on 06/05/2007 06:21 AM
