Changing Times
It's 7-1-09 and I haven't really managed my Picturetrail for a while so I thought I'd write a blog about the changes on the farm. We are now only raising and breeding Buff, Black and Lavender, Blue and Splash Silkies. We picked our favorite colors and stuck with them to focus on quality, raising all the colors was a bit crazy. We still will be offering fertile eggs and chicks. Eggs are generally sold on Ebay under revolutionmama. The heat here is pretty rough on the chickens so we've been keeping up on fresh greens and cold water. Our 4H fair will be coming up again next month and my son Zaine is very excited about showing. I haven't been able to make it to the bigger shows due to the economy and gas prices but I hope to one day be apart of it. We have beautiful Indian Runner ducks coming out of our ears this spring/summer, and we are now taking in rescued domestic ducks from the Nature Center in Kansas City.

Winners at 4H Fair!!
We did excellent at 4H Fair on 7/30/08...My son took Grand Champion Young Bantam with our Partridge Hen and she got Reserve Champion out of all the Bantams plus a blue ribbon. One of our Buff Hens got Reserve Champion Old Bantam plus a blue ribbon. The other Buff Hen got a blue ribbon. Our Splash Rooster got a blue ribbon. We took Reserve Champion Old Duck with our Pastel Indian Runner Drake and he got a blue ribbon on top of that. All of our Indian Runners got blue ribbons, it was a bummer because the 2 young black & whites adult plumage wasn't fully in so he said they could of won besides that, but our White Call duck took Grand Champion Call/Bantam Duck and she was Reserve Champion out of all the Waterfowl!!! I'd say Zaine did excellent....Go Clinton Eagles 4H!!! He's to young for the state fair but next year we will go for both 4H and Open Show.

Lovin' those Babydolls!
We are adding Olde English Babydoll Sheep to our farm. Our first purchase was Moses who is a 2 year old black whether with the sweetest face that I fell in love with the moment I layed eyes on him!  That did it! Now we have a white ewe lamb and we named her JuneBug and soon we will have a white ram lamb named Linus.  We will be starting a breeding program next year.
New to our Silkie breeding program is two Lavender Splash Silkies and Blue Splash Silkies.  It should be fun to find out what kind of babies we will have out of that bunch!  Two hens are sitting on eggs Buffs and Blue. I also have some Hattrick Eggs in the incubator that are going to hatch in 14 days!  Should have some beauties. We got 6 Blue and 2 Black  started Silkies from Bobbi Porto, WOW these guys are amazing!  Soon to be added to a breeding pen is a pair of Buff Silkies from  Nikki's Hattrick line. We added 3 White Showgirls to our breeding program, they have outstanding top knotches.  More Silkie news to come...
