Barbara Dawson Cassell:
HI, Most of my friends know all about me but, for the few.
I was born at home in Welch, WV, April 23 1939. I went to Welch Grade School and on to graduate from Welch High School May 27, 1957. After that, I took many classes. Some credit and some non credit. I took classes at McLains Business College when I worked at the First National bank in Bluefield. I took classes at, Frederick Community College and also Hagerstown Community College, where I have taken a number of on line classes. This is where I took clarinet lessons, too. I played with the New Horizon Band for a couple of years. Last year I took the guitar class. So now I am supposed to be learning on my own. I really need to work more on this.
I have completed the Graphoanalysis Course offered by the International Graphoanalysis Society. I was a certified graphologist for several years. I enjoy studying hand writing analysis, but it takes a long time to analyze someone handwriting correctly. It is a very interesting hobby.
Sept 24, 1960, I married John Cassell from Keystone, WV. He graduated from N-E in 1957. John 's career, before retiring was working for the Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC.
We have one daughter, Rhonda, married to Mike Ramsburg and two grandsons, Christopher 18 and Justin 13.( 2008) By now I am feeling very old. :)
Favorite saying:
" You do not get old until you out live your enthusiasm"
Being enthusiastic is just as important to keeping young as good health. I think "age is a state of mind" and I like to think mine is "lost in the fifties". I am quick to say I am not lost in the fifties, I just like to visit there.
I had lupus as a teenager and did not discover why I could not enjoy laying out in the sun to get a tan like my friends, and suffered so much joint pain and was always tired. Then at the age of 26, I was hospitalized and they found I had lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. So I am just returning to those fun loving years, vicariously.
Rules I live by:
I try to live with the Serenity Prayer.
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. To change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference".
The last part is the hardest for me.
Interests & Hobbies:
My interest are unlimited. I love learning and still take classes about everything from house repair to investing. I think everyone knows my most important hobby. I collect 50's memorabilia. I especially like to get things from my home town of Welch, WV or from my old high school. I also collect post cards from McDowell County. I also enjoy working with pictures on the computer. I have a Picture Trail photo site.

I love to dance and roller skates. I still do both when I get a chance. My neighbors do not have to watch for kids in the street here, They watch out for me. :)
I also started the first lupus support group in Frederick, MD, from which I received several awards. It was very rewarding helping young people deal with lupus and encourage them to have faith and courage.
TV Shows:
I don't watch a lot of TV. I do watch news and I can get lost in an old movie. Life Time and Hallmark are my favorite.
Favorite Music & Bands:
My favorite music is of course, Rock and Roll. but I do enjoy everything from Blue Grass to classical. My moods dictates what I want to listen to. If I am sad, I listen to country, Happy, Rock and Roll and if I feel creative I need Classical. I am also very fond of Big Band music. So it is obvious that most of today’s music does not interest me. :-)
Favorite Reads:
I do not read a lot, it slows me down, but when I do, it has to be thought provoking. The last book I read was,” The Five People You Meet in Heaven", by Mitch Albon. It was short and sweet.
Another favorite book is, "The Seat of The Soul", by Gary Zukav.
It is about authentic empowerment and the alignment of the personality with the soul. It explains how we do not have to limit our selves to just 5 senses. We can get more out of life by being a multi sensory person. That is where our intuition and imagination come in to play. It is interesting and I will be reading it for some time. It might help be a better more calm person.

These are photos of me and John our senior year in high school. We did not meet each other until 1960.
I was working at the First National Bank in Bluefield, WV and he came in to see his cousin Flora. She introduced us. I guess he made an impression. We were married in Sept of 60. |
