I grew up in New England where to see nature all I had to do was look out my door. I moved out here to California about 2 years ago and as much as I love it, there are a lot of things I miss about New England. The autumn especially, having my own garden, birdwatching.. the list goes on but basically I'm a nature girl in the city now. My whole life I've been an avid crafter in one form or another, drawing, painting, candlemaking, working with silk flowers, crocheting, whatever. I've just always had a natural artistic talent, and all my life people have been telling me that I should not let it go to waste. A few years ago I had thought about attending floral design school, but it never panned out. After an extremely horrible week at work (in the accounting field YUCK) something inside me snapped and I realized that there was NO WAY I wanted to sit in offices for the rest of my life. In fact, most of my life I'd avoided office jobs, until one fell in my lap that was at least tolerable and had some great people working there. When I moved to CA, another office job ended up drawing me in, and now I wake up every morning dreading going to work. I need beauty in my life. So the decision was made. This time I would seriously work towards a career in floral design. I signed up for a correspondence class since I'd never be able to fit a good design school into my schedule, and I've been trying to take every local class I can find. So, this site is going to be my showplace. The pictures up now are all pre-class designs, so as I take more classes and more of the online coursework I'll add more pictures to show any progress in skill. And that's it in a nutshell. These are some of the pictures I had on file, and I'll start going thru my photo's and scanning and adding more pictures as I get them onto my pc.
