Wild Bird Club of the Philippines Bird's Festival Experience |
This year as in last, I once again missed out on the proceedings of the bird fest on account of my being assigned at the reception. It seems that my caper last year of giving away souvenir programs just to do away with the boring task of selling them did not seem to work at getting me out of the rut. So I missed the whole proceeding again.
Working at the reception is not easy. One has to act like the greeting ladies at a department store or worse – at a Japanese restaurant shouting “Jose’ Jose’!!”
Selling the souvenir program should be easy as it was very well done. Congrats to the pair of love birds! But the guests who are not initiated and not familiar with it are not wont to buy it. In order to sell, the three dragon ladies together with Wency who made up the morning reception shift resorted to cheering the guests into buying the programs. They succeeded selling 38 copies collecting a total of pesos 1,800.00.
Elpidio, Eric, Felix and myself of the afternoon shift were not as active, so we sat solemnly in a rigid line. Eric/Elpidio were first on the line selling the souvenirs for 50 pesos, if that failed I would be next and sell at 49.95 hoping to get the guests with a bargain, if that still failed, Felix would be last in the gauntlet selling for 65 pesos advising the guests that it was to raise funds for the police department. Felix sold the most.
Leni, who came in late was so aghast at the method. She sat at the end of the line wide eyed with disbelief. One little boy told his daddy “bumili na kayo dad baka mahostage ako tulad nya” pointing at Leni.
On the record we at the afternoon shift sold only 28 copies for a day’s total of 66 copies, but the money in the kitty for the whole day amounted to 4,976.45. Bad mathematics but good business. Saan galling yung 26.95. I do not know but Felix said it was all bunched up around the coins and smelt of bar-b-q that was selling behind the reception area.
By the way that bar-b-q was delicious and next year we should get San Miguel as the Major sponsor.
Sorry Leni, I sold your souvenir to get rid if that pesky old man who wanted my autograph, and please do not believe Felix when he told you that the Changeable Hawk Eagle brought in by My Zoo has the ability to change itself from Hawk to Eagle and vice versa. And please do not believe Eric when he said that the Phil Hawk Eagle is a cross between a Hawk and an Eagle only in the Philippines. |

As drum thumps matched my heartbeats, I could feel my body swayed to the rythm of the festivity. It's Kadayawan (thanksgiving for the natives of Davao) and the shindig surely awakened the hardened heart of gods for the mortals.
As we edged our way in, I can feel every weary muscles of participants and spectators still unflagging from the heat of the sun. Unmindful of the sweat touching bystanders, I can feel every gaeity plugging up. I was silently praying that everything is still under control. I looked around and was assured with presents of security all alert and mindful of every passerbys. Swarmed with different players, I played it cool not wanting to spoil any posts and flicks on my cam. I gladly gawk every angles and every lines, hoping I caught up best in every presentations and even from the crowd.
Definitely, a feast on my dampened spirit, spurring anew spark for life. Cheers!

SPINTRONICS |

I've heard that saying over and over again. "Nice guys finish last". Is it true? Although I've had many opportunities to believe it I refuse to succumb to it. Unfortunely I can't be anything but a nice guy so I'm stuck trying to prove that theory wrong. To prove it wrong though, I will need the help of someone else. Could that be my most dangerous secret?
electro my magnetic spin
caught in your flux, pulled
where you wanna take me
up or down?
heighten my horizontal existence
crippled by misunderstanding, those other loves limited
your genius manifested with a love i.q. unchartable
figure me out
together we got a force that
spins
Plates shift like loose luggage
Across the continental divide
Catching me in its riptide
And unsurely I feel butterflies
The size of eagles that don’t subside
When poles reverse polarity and
The electricity?
Man… the electricity…
Static as ions speed past neurons
Relentlessly pulled apart, by and toward
Forces unseen and prosecuted
By Ohms Law
Upending my Topsey Turvey me
Spinning me
Equidistance across my horizontal existence
Cyclically
I rise and fall frequently and the
Frequency has me energized as the force
Builds against the force inside me
Pulsing out and pulling in…
Faster than lightning flashing
The sky from dark to light instantaneously…
Although briefly…
Catching the wave and riding the continuity
I love it, what you do to me
Your love is pure electricity.
