Hurghada, originally a small fishing village, is also the capital of the Red Sea Governorate where most central administrations and facilities reside.Hurghada is a city in the Red Sea Governorate of Egypt. It is a tourist center located on the Red Sea coast. The city was founded in the early 20th century, and since the 1980s has been continually enlarged by Egyptian and foreign investors to become the leading seashore resort on the Red Sea. Holiday villages and hotels provide aquatic sport facilities for sailboarders, yachtsmen, scuba divers and snorkelers. Hurghada stretches for about 36 kilometres (22 mi) along the seashore, and it does not reach far into the surrounding desert. The resort is a destination for Egyptian tourists from Cairo, the Delta and Upper Egypt, as well as package holiday tourists from Europe, notably Italians, Russians, Czechs and Germans. Until a few years ago it was a small fishing village. Today Hurghada counts 248,000 inhabitants and is divided into three parts: Downtown (El Dahar) is the old part; Sekalla is the modern part, and El Korra Road is the most modern part. Sakkala is the relatively modest hotel quarter. Dahar is where the town's largest bazaar, the post office and the long-distance bus station are situated.

General Information about Hurghada Egypt
Hurghada was once just a tiny fishing village, and was not visited by anybody from outside of the local area.
This was true as recently as the 1970s. However, once tourists discovered the clear blue water and great opportunities for diving, Hurghada quickly grew into a major tourist destination.
Today, the result is a stretch of 20 km with beach hotels.
Most of these hotels are laid out along one major road, and all a short transfer from the international airport, to which it’s easy to find cheap flightsAbout the modern resort
Hurghada is a popular tourist resort for divers and for those who just enjoy getting
out their snorkel and swimming close to shore. Egyptians, Saudi’s and Americans
visit Hurghada alongside Europeans to sample the golden beaches and crystal
clear waters of the Red Sea Riviera.
Hurghada is in reality three main centres and numerous self contained tourist areas
now growing into one main body. To the north lies the place that is closest to
being called a town, Al-Dahar, where more than half of the ‘locals’ live.

A couple of kilometres south you will find Sigala, a place that suffers from being
between Al-Dahar and New Hurghada. There are some hotels here, most new, and
as a result this area is still growing in terms of tourist popularity.

From big eye fish, king fish, snapper, and several kinds of grouper to bonito, cobia, bluefin tuna, and bgeyetun fish, the fishing is never dull. Hurghada used to be a small fishing village, and the area offers many fishing options. You can fish from the shore, stop and drop a line with bait from a boat, or troll for the big game fish.
