Rachel Field's best friend and artist Dorothy Lathrop actually shared ownership of the original "Hitty" and it was Dorothy who illustrated the book for Rachel. The original wooden doll today resides in the Stockbridge, Mass. Library Museum. Hobbyist like myself enjoy collecting various similarly carved artist dolls.
