Emil Chau's Niagara Falls concert Feb.23rd 2007

I'm a French Canadian from Montreal who is very happy to share with you the great moment with my favorite singer Emil Chau.

By a beautiful February day, I arrived in Niagara Falls and I met Kristy. First time that we see each other but we worked so many times about Emil's project that we feel like old friends. Niagara Falls of course you have to pay a visit to the falls. Seeing them frozen is something different from the summer. Very impressive to see that huge gap between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie that creates the falls. It's below 0C for sure but they are not completely on ice, water runs through it, nothing can stop that water from falling. It was so beautiful when I saw a rainbow coming out of the falls. A great image, not to forget. Not to forget either was the Niagara Fallsview Casino, beautiful building with marble floors, very exclusive shops and good restaurants. But Kristy and I have an other goal for our venue in this casino, seeing our favorite singer. Emil Chau.

Friday night, we arrived at the Avalon Ballroom Theater. We waited all day to be there. We know that the show will be something to talk about and remember. 8pm sharp, the musicians got their place. Music, the lights turned off, a movie begins on the screen over the stage. 20 years in Emil's professional life. After that, music amplified and you can hear a voice coming from the backstage.

Emil

Kristy and I had expecting this moment since we heard about that concert. He's there now on the platform all dressed in white. His suit shines under the very bright light. His voice is very good. He sangs his classic, Flowery Heart, You make me happy and sad, Friends etc. He wished Happy New Year to the audience in 3 languages, Mandarin, Cantonese and English very thoughtful of him. He made a few jokes with it that made the crowd laughed but my Mandarin is not enough good to really enjoy the great entertainer that Emil is. In his great personality being funny, having sense of humor are a big part of it. He sang sometimes seated on his amplifiers. People were coming to give him Red envelopes, took few pictures and gave him flowers. He jokes in all those situations. He seems to enjoy every moment of it.

After 20 minutes, the light went on. Emil seems a little confused about it. Fire Alarm... Couldn't believe it. In the beginning of Emil's concert. Everything stopped. Technicians came to speak with Emil. Crowd stayed calm because Emil stayed calm. Waiting for instructions from the casino staff. After interminable minutes, the technicians installed more microphones. Alarm stopped, the show could go on. Thanks God. The sense of humor and the great professionalism of Emil helped the situation. He surely had been shaken in his concentration and momentum. Nothing showed in his attitude and he finished the concert as nothing happened. Great guy, great artist.

To let it change his clothes, Lee Chi, the violinist, played a classic piece. It was a great performance, he has great talent. Emil got back in a sequin black pants and a very deep pink embroidered shirt. It was my favorite ensemble for that night. He sangs 3 songs in English that made me very happy. Especially Yesterday as I'm a Beatles fan. His voice was strong and touching in Fly Me To The Moon. The show continue with great songs in Mandarin and Cantonese. They are all superb songs. My favorite is Sad Song, he sang it with all his heart. He came back at the end of the show with a pearled jeans and a red shirt. A more relax look that suits him good too. He gives everything he had in this concert. He wanted to please his audience as usual.

2 hours of great entertaining, of unforgettable songs and of sweet man who puts love in what he does. A lot to remember for Kristy in the plane while getting back to Texas and to me in the train to Montreal. Thanks you for coming Emil, I wish that he comes more and more in America to let us enjoy his great talent in concert because it's where all his talent is fully expressing.
