For those of you who don't know me...my name is Veronica Philion; I have done crafts of all sorts from a very early age and have tried making and doing many different things. I began making bears in '99 with help from my friend Kim. She called to tell me she had found a great new hobby we should try. When she said about making bears..I laughed...and said, but..Kim..I don't know how to sew. She said neither did she..but this was not machine sewing..we were going to make them by hand! Alright..! I could do that!! I was excited to see what we were going to try; was absolutely thrilled with my first attempt and have been making bears ever since. I have made them for gifts, special occasions, for sale and also for charity events. Then, someone told me doll making was along the same line..so, I tried making a doll for the first time in the summer of '04 through an on-line class. It isn't, of course...but I do love the face painting aspect of dolls. I still don't really "sew" ..and their clothing is still more hand stitched and glued than done by machine. Glue companies love me!! I keep threatening to get my own machine and get busy learning something about it...but my middle name is procrastination and Kim was very kind;she loaned me one of hers...which I still have here (thank you for that Kim!). In October '05 I had carpal tunnel surgery and got lazy..played around surfing the 'net while pretty much housebound.. couldn't even drive...that's when I found needle felted bears. I bought 3 (check them out in the Special Treasures album!) but, that was getting expensive..so I decided...I can do this! Now I am!! Just can't get away from those bears, can I?! I am now also trying to learn a bit of sculpting..which is not exactly what I thought "sculpting" was really...check out my sculpted things album to see what I mean. In 2006, I also began some paper art & card making. An ATC (Artist Trading Card)will now accompany each of the bears or dolls when they travel to their new homes. My albums are filled with pics of my bears, dolls and near the bottom..a few motorcycling shots...flowers.. and an occasional silly thing.
