After losing close to 80 lbs 12 years ago, I finally worked up the nerve to have a tuck. (along with a BA revision and some lipo) Original surgery was 1/19/05 done in a surgical center. My ps did some of the lipo and was in the middle of doing my BA revision . About 2 hrs into it, I went into cardiac arrest and my heart stopped. I've been told that it was close to 5 minutes, and it was caused by a reaction to the anesthesia. I was pumped full of meds and the surgeons and nurses started chest compressions to start my heart again. It started, but I wasn't stable. I was rushed to a nearby hospital where I spent 5 hrs in the ER on a respirator, and was then transferred to the CCU overnight. By the grace of God, I'm still here with no visible brain damage (those that know me may disagree, lol) but I have some permanent scars due to my BA being revised when I went into arrest. Having this surgery was something I wanted so badly, I was willing to go back for "round 2". I went back on 3/25/05 to finish my surgery at the same hospital that saved my life. All went well. No bad reactions, no problems. Although I'm left with some horrific memories of January, and some emotional trauma that hopefully time will heal; I'm still glad I did this. :) |
